Job Description
Main Purpose: To obtain skills, knowledge and ability through the Planner Competency Process to eventually develop into a competent Planner.
Key Performance Areas:
- Develop a network diagram to determine the logical sequences of events and to calculate the Critical Path of a project.
- Develop standard detail project plan which includes network diagram with critical path, schedule and labour histogram: Compile work packages for project scope including method statements and risk assessments, bill of materials, bill of equipment.
- Monitor changes to critical path and identify deviation.
- Advise management on potential deviations with regards to scheduled activities and resources.
- Maintain plan according to project requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve future planning of projects.
- Facilitate review meetings in accordance with Planning standards.
- Establish and maintain visual factory in accordance with Planning standards.
- Act as planner in the absence of the Project Planner.
- Monitor progress during execution by liaising with all interested parties to obtain accurate information/status.
- Analyse, record and communicate deviations during execution.
- Any other job related duties as required from time to time.

Preferred Requirements:
- Grade 12/N3 with math and science on higher grade.
- National Technical Diploma.
- Project management qualification would be advantageous.
- Qualified artisan would be advantageous.
- 3 Years’ experience in a project execution and/or planning environment in the Engineering /Construction Industry.
- Basic understanding of project planning processes (work breakdown structures, Gantt charts, project scheduling, project controls, etc.).
- Knowledge of work – and planning standards.
- Knowledge of boiler maintenance, construction and engineering would be advantageous.
- Ability to draw up a network diagram which is reflective of the actual execution of work packages.
- Possess the necessary expertise in navigating project planning software.
- Computer literate (MS Office and current planning software packages).
